Pregnancy & Chiropractic Care

In regards to pregnancy, chiropractic care is most commonly known for aiding in reduction of pregnancy-associated lower back pain. However, chiropractic care is a safe and non-invasive intervention that can assist with fertility challenges, optimal pelvic alignment, overall health throughout pregnancy, and post-birth care.

Chiropractic care is beneficial for supporting all women pre, during, and post pregnancy. According to Gray’s Anatomy, 29th ed., “The nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body.” Therefore, with chiropractic care assisting the mother’s body in functioning properly, an optimal environment for fetal development will also be evident.

Chiropractic care can specifically assist with the following topics associated with pregnancy:

Fertility challenges- Chiropractic care can assist with infertility challenges by removing nerve interferences (subluxations) that were previously decreasing communication and regulation between your brain and your reproductive and endocrine systems.

Optimal pelvic alignment- Chiropractic care can assist with pelvic alignment to allow for optimal fetal positioning. The Webster Technique specifically addresses this concern with emphasis on the sacral joint. This can assist the mother in her ability to deliver naturally and non-invasively.

Maintaining an overall healthier pregnancy- Chiropractic care not only assists with structure, but also allows your nervous system to better communicate to other bodily systems. This increased communication can lead to expressing health for you and your baby via reducing nausea, regulating hormones, and encouraging proper fetal development!

Post birth care- Chiropractic care doesn't need to stop right after delivery! It continues to be beneficial for mother and baby to maintain health. Here at Roots Family Chiropractic, we pride ourselves on providing continued wellness care to create a community of healthy and happy families.

Pediatric Care

After the birthing process it is important to have your child checked by a chiropractor to determine any misalignments in the spinal column. These misalignments (aka subluxations) put undue pressure on the nervous system resulting in ailments or dis-ease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 32.7% of all deliveries are completed via c-section. Though this intervention can be life saving for mother and baby, this statistic shows the unfortunate reality that forceful interventions are becoming more common during today's birthing processes. The CDC states that c-section rates should not surpass 10-15% of births in any area of the world. These processes, including c-sections, forceps, and vacuum extractions, lead to unnecessary force on your child's spine and nervous system.

In order to ensure proper growth and development for your child, chiropractic care is beneficial for reducing three specific forms of "stress" impacting your child on a daily basis:

Physical stress (Traumas)- Physical stress on the child's body and nervous system not only include the birthing processes listed above, but also include "traumas" such as falls, which occur when children learn to walk, injuries that occur while playing sports, etc.
Chemical stress (Toxins)- Chemical stress is evident everywhere in today's current environment. These stressors can negatively impact your child's nervous system by bombarding it with toxic substances. Such chemicals can be found in processed foods, household cleaning agents, prescription medications, plastics, etc.
Emotional stress (Thoughts)- Emotional stress, such as anxiety and depression, can also occur in children due to imbalanced hormone regulation. Children typically express emotional stress via physical outlets (stomach aches, headaches, diarrhea, behavioral outbursts, etc.). We need to recognize these expressions for what they are and address the root cause of the presenting symptoms.

According to "Well-Adjusted Babies" written by Dr. Jennifer Barham-Floreani (2009), the top 10 reasons parents take their children to see a chiropractor are as follows:

  1. To maximize brain and nerve development
  2. To enhance overall health and well-being
  3. To strengthen immunity and reduce incidences of colds, earaches, & general illnesses
  4. To help with colic
  5. To help with asthma, allergies, & other breathing difficulties
  6. To improve spinal posture
  7. To improve concentration
  8. To assist with behavioral disorders
  9. To alleviate bedwetting and digestive concerns
  10. To assist with sleep issues

But what if my child is already "healthy"?
Health is measured by how well the body is functioning, not by how we feel. If your child is feeling great, we are happy for them! We would love the opportunity perform an assessment with the Subluxation Station to obtain an objective measurement of their health. At Roots Family Chiropractic, when it comes to your family's health, we don’t guess, we test!
