HEAR FROM OUR TEAM: Our personal chiropractic stories

Sharing stories is one of the most powerful gifts we have! Stories teach us, empower us, help us learn from mistakes and bring growth. That’s why our team is sharing our personal stories in today’s blog. But not just any stories, our individual chiropractic stories. The words behind our journey, passion and commitment to you!

DR TOM

I would be lying if I said that I always knew I wanted to be a chiropractor. I grew up playing competitive soccer and had an initial vision of pursuing sports medicine of some sort. This led to my first career goal of becoming a Physical Therapist. However, during my senior year of high school I began to see a chiropractor due to chronic back pain for as long as I could remember. These weekly visits began to spark the interest in becoming a chiropractor - the best of both worlds since I could use my skills as a chiropractor to help athletes recovery efficiently outside of traditional therapy.

Chiropractic school began and I honestly felt lost with how I wanted to practice after graduation. I began to learn about the human body, the nervous system and the role that chiropractors can play in overall HEALTH. Not just pain or injuries, but helping people achieve health goals they never imagined. I vividly remember sitting in an auditorium and listening to a passionate chiropractor speak about chiropractic care for kids. He told the story of a child with autism in his office who went from being non-verbal, having constant sensory meltdowns, and no eye contact with his family - to a child who was thriving! A child who was talking, smiling and interacting with his siblings.

In that moment I knew that my role as a chiropractor was going to be different, and that story was the start of my vision for Roots Family Chiropractic. A practice that would breath life into kids and families who were searching for hope. Laying a healthy foundation for our kids is the start of healthy generations I believe that kids are resilient rockstars, and I am thankful for the path that gave me the honor to meet yours!

DR ASHLEY

My chiropractic story is quite a bit different than most! I was in undergrad at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN - my last semester as a biology pre/med student in kinesiology class. A recruiter came from Life University and spoke to us about the many programs the school offered and the last program he mentioned was the chiropractic program. He spoke about how chiropractic care is a form of health care that aids the body in healing in a natural way. How the doctor uses their hands to give adjustments instead of using medicine and surgery to aid in the healing process. This sparked my interest and from that day forward I researched on my own more about chiropractic and decided to change gears on my educational track to chiropractic. Once I made up my mind this was the route I wanted to go I moved forward in making arrangements to attend chiropractic college and did not look back!

LAUREN

My chiropractic journey began with getting checked by a chiropractor after experiencing amenorrhea for almost 2 years. At the time, Dr. Tom and I were dating, he was in chiropractic school and he strongly encouraged me to schedule an appointment with one of his professors. I was tired of being placed on medications to “jump start” a menstrual cycle that never happened, and decided to try a more natural approach to health. I knew that I wanted children in the future, and hearing that this would be a challenge from my medical doctor was not what I wanted to hear. A few months after starting chiropractic care, my menstrual cycle started on its own!

Fast-forward to present day and we are blessed with a healthy, almost 3 year old who has been under chiropractic care since birth himself. Chiropractic has taught me that my body is capable of AMAZING things. Is every journey perfect? Of course not! However, in my life, chiropractic has helped me regain “womanhood” by allowing my body to successfully regain a regular menstrual cycle and create life.
