The Ultimate Sensory Bin This Winter!

Think of the snowy outdoors today as the ultimate sensory bin. It contains a variety of sensory elements to help fine tune your kiddo’s nervous system, problem solve, adapt and most importantly... have fun! For little babes and older kids alike - snow has so many benefits.

Here are just a FEW reasons why playtime in the snow should be prioritized for your kiddos this winter:

1. Provides proprioceptive feedback from heavy work of rolling snowballs, trucking through snow in heavier boots, etc
2. Can result in a calming effect from the peaceful snow fall and above heavy work on the joints
3. Encourages creativity and problem solving
4. Promotes communication skills - Is your child able to express if too cold or too hot? Can they share if their glove or boot need adjusting? Or does meltdown quickly occur?
5. Provides sensory input from the elements unable to achieve in the home - snow melting, wind blowing, variety of temperatures
6. Encourages creativity and independent play

Bonus: Did you know that cold can actually jump start immune function? That’s why our friends at @havenchicago recommend cold showers!
